Born in 1990, Victoria Aveyard is one of the youngest young adult and fantasy fiction writers out there. The prolific author has also gained popularity for her screenplays, but she is mostly known for Red Queen and War Storm. She has a growing bibliography of amazing titles, as she has started writing soon after graduating from university. She also has a few collaborations in the cinema industry and a few upcoming projects.

Victoria Aveyard Books Ordered by Year

Fate Breaker (Realm Breaker Book 3), by Victoria Aveyard (2024)

The story picks up with the Companions scattered and in dire straits. Corayne, the protagonist, really had me worried this time around. She's alone, her blade's broken, and she's got the weight of the world on her shoulders. Holding onto Taristan's sword, the last Spindleblade, felt like the only glimmer of hope.

Taristan and Queen Erida, the villains, are as relentless as ever. They're hell-bent on bringing down Corayne and unleashing their demon god, What Waits, on Allward. The stakes felt higher than ever, and I couldn't help but feel anxious about how it would all play out.

The final showdown is something else. It's not just a battle between good and evil; it's a clash of kingdoms, gods, and desperate hopes. I was on the edge of my seat, wondering who would rise to the occasion and who would crumble.

Blade Breaker (Realm Breaker Book 2), by Victoria Aveyard (2022)

The lives of Andry, Dom, Sorasa, Valtik and Corayne have been forever changed by the events of Realm Breaker. Now that Erida’s rule is absolute, each must decide what their future holds – whether they will fight for a brighter day or give in to the bloodstained soil below their feet.

Together they must gather their forces to face Queen Erida and Taristan’s huge army. But as usual there is something more darker (and deadlier) in the background  that waits to reveal it's power and to destroy the hope of thois realm.

Realm Breaker (Realm Breaker Book 1), by Victoria Aveyard (2021)

Realm Breaker is one of the best Victoria Aveyard books if you are after suspense, action, and fantasy in one go. The action takes place in Allward, a mystical place that seems to be taken over by darkness. Darkness keeps gaining in intensity, and everyone around it can feel it – even Corayne, from a small seaside town where nothing ever happens.

Life is quiet and boring for Corayne an-Amarat, yet she discovers a secret that will change everything to 180 degrees. She is the last individual in an ancient lineage, and she could be the only one able to save the world. However, in a world where she barely knows a few people, she finds it impossible by herself – luckily, she is joined by a band of unusual companions.

Teamed up with an assassin, a sorceress, a forget, a bounty hunter, and a few other weirdos that have nothing in common, Corayne will have to face a harsh opponent – an invincible force that is willing to turn everything into ash. The army is unlike anything the world has ever seen, yet Corayne might have a plan. This is only the first book in the ongoing series.

Red School, by Victoria Aveyard (2020)

Red School consists of two different parts. The book is not necessarily related to the Red Queen series, but it might be handy to go through at least the first book of the series – you will learn a little about the characters and their background. But then, you can read this book without going through the series – they are not really related, and you can still enjoy it.

Red School has been released as a celebration of more series. Bringing in an exclusive featuring from Victoria Aveyard and Soman Chainani, the two part graphic novel brings in characters from Red Queen, as well as some popular names from The School for Good and Evil. Get ready for two famous series clashing together in a unique plot twist that will pleasantly surprise you.

Both books are great for the fans of the series, but not only. Enjoy a bit of fantasy and action. The second book provides more access to mythology and explanations, so you become a bit more familiar with the heroes. Both books are relatively short, meaning most readers will go through them within a day or two – they feature amazing illustrations as well.

RED SCHOOL

War Storm (Red Queen Book 4), by Victoria Aveyard (2018)

If the third book in the Red Queen series mostly builds up tension for the impressive finale, the last release – War Storm – will surprise you with its plot twists and dramatic events. Mare is ready to fulfill her destiny and overthrow the aggressive silvers.

But battles are hard to win against a series of superpowers. Mare has to find some alliances, and some of them are not too pleasant at all. However, she realizes that she cannot do everything by herself. She comes up with a varied team to work on her obsession and find peace once and for all.

There are no doubts about it – war is coming. Mare is positive about her power, but she wants more than just peace – she wants peace within her heart too. She knows she will lose many of her friends, but she must embrace her fate.

King's Cage (Red Queen Book 3), by Victoria Aveyard (2017)

King Maven still weaves his web in the hope of maintaining control over his country. Red remnants have been steadily gathering at Mare's mercy as a political prisoner.

Though Mare bears the weight of Silent Stone in the palace, her once-ragtag band of newbloods and Reds continue organizing, preparing, and expanding. On the brink of war, they continue to dwell on the grounds rather than linger in the dark. And Cal, the exiled prince who saw Mare as the love of his life. Nothing will stop him to save her.

I read right through this book faster than the first two. Beware it has a heartbreaking conclusion!

Glass Sword (Red Queen Book 2), by Victoria Aveyard (2016)

This is the second book in the Red Queen series and one that put Victoria Aveyard among the best-rated fantasy authors out there. It follows Mare Barrow's story – a red-blooded commoner with silver blooded superpowers.

She manages to escape Maven – an evil prince, only to realize that she is not the only one in this position. There are more people out there, and they all share similar powers. Hunted by Maven, she will not have to recruit other people to fight back.

Sooner or later, Mare realizes that she is actually becoming a silver monster. Her attitude has changed, and her army keeps growing. Will she manage to retain her innocence, or will she become a deadly warrior?

Red Queen (Red Queen Book 1), by Victoria Aveyard (2015)

The world has been divided ages ago – some people are red-blooded, and the others are silver-blooded. The red ones are known as commoners. The silvers rule them due to some incredible superpowers. Nothing seems to change, and life just goes on.

Mare Barrow – a 17 years old red girl from Stilts – does not have too much hope. One day, she gets a job at the Silver Palace – surrounded by people she hates, but inside her enemy's best kept secrets. She soon discovers that she possesses incredible power too, and she may actually have the chance to change everything.

She is introduced to the world as a long-lost silver princess, but she has to play by the rules. While keeping the official appearances, she helps the Red Guard – a resistance group trying to bring life back to normal.

Final Thoughts on Victoria Aveyard Books

As a short final conclusion, these are some of the best-rated Victoria Aveyard books. The young author is still new in the industry, yet she has already managed to build an incredible reputation based on her imagination and creativity.

She has become a world-renowned author with her Red Queen series, and the new Realm Breaker series is likely to overcome it. Only time can tell how far she will go, but one thing is for sure – she is currently one of the trend leaders in this genre. If you are interested in YA fantasy, check also Leigh Bardugo's books.
