This is a formula I designed years ago, after hundreds of hours of consulting with many types of clients.
I feel very happy and humbled that many people have reported it to be life-changing in how they organize and structure their lives.

This formula stands for:

  • D= Definition.
  • A= Allocation.
  • A= Accountability.

This is a step-by-step process to do any plan. You can use this formula with any kind of plan you want to design, but, of course, since the focus of this book is on the weekly ones, my explanations and examples will be on that lane.

This is what each concept means in more detail…

One of the things that I recommend my clients to have is a database. And I've been applying these for years and years.

What I mean by a database is the place where you store and save all of the pending tasks, new ideas and pending projects that at some point you have to execute.

Two years ago, I was in a session with my great client Bilal from Toronto and when I explained to him the concept of “database”, he brought up the term “Parking Lot”.

So, from there on, I started calling it like that because it has a more fun sound. And the more fun something sounds the more probable to pay attention to it.

This is the first step to take to start planning your weeks regularly. As you have heard me say on other occasions, a successful and organized person is one who has an annual plan, a quarterly plan, a weekly plan, and a daily plan.

A big mistake that many managers, executives, leaders, and office workers in general make is that they are not consistent in having a roadmap for their weeks.

They might be aware that this is ve1y important to do, but at the same time find all kinds of excuses to not do that and ju st skip it.

Like I emphasized in my book The Super Productive Leader, we become victims of the “To-Do List Mentality” and get stuck in a crisis after crisis cycle.

A great variety of studies show that only 1% of executives plan their weeks consistently. The others might have done it at some point but are not persistent at it.

Whether people want to admit it or not, the main reason as to why we don't make our plans consistently is because planning is a boring activity in itself.

Yes, that's the real deal my friends. Most of the time we won't want to admit that because we know that planning is very fundamental if you are a professional in any field.
